Shanghai Vice Secretary-General Zhuang Mudi recently led a delegation to Mexico. During the visit, Zhuang attended the “Charming Twin Cities, Winning the Future Together”—”Invest in Shanghai · Global Tour” series event (Mexico stop) and the Shanghai-Mexico Cooperation and Win-Win Symposium, engaging in in-depth exchanges with representatives from Mexican political and business circles. Ge Dongbo, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Investment Promotion Office (Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization), accompanied the delegation.

We look forward to further deepening cooperation in technological innovation, trade and investment, and industrial collaboration between the two sides. We welcome more Mexican companies to invest in Shanghai to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

 

On February 18 local time, the “Charming Twin Cities, Winning the Future Together”—”Invest Shanghai · Global Tour” series event (Mexico stop) was successfully held. Zhuang Mudi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government; Zhu Jian, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico; and Yeyedcol Polevinsky, Chair of the Asia-Pacific Foreign Affairs Committee of the Mexican Senate, attended the event and delivered speeches.

The event brought together over 200 distinguished guests, including representatives from Mexican government agencies such as the Mexico City Investment Promotion Agency; key industry associations and chambers of commerce in Mexico, including the National Manufacturing Industry Association, the Mexico-China Chamber of Commerce of Technology, and the Mexican Council for Foreign Trade, Investment, and Technology Enterprises; Shanghai’s global investment promotion partners such as Bank of China, Colliers International, and Chint Group; as well as representatives from leading Mexican enterprises like Grupo Cobalt, Industrias Américas, and Monex Bank.

Zhuang Mudi introduced Mexican political and business representatives to Shanghai’s development in building the “Five Centers,” as well as the economic and trade cooperation between Shanghai and Mexico. He also shared success stories of Shanghai enterprises thriving in Mexico. In 2024, the total import and export volume between Shanghai and Mexico exceeded $10 billion, highlighting immense growth potential. Shanghai remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment, an ideal destination for investment, and a region with competitive comprehensive costs. Zhuang expressed hope that more Mexican companies would recognize, understand, and invest in Shanghai, further deepening practical cooperation in technological innovation, trade and investment, and industrial collaboration to achieve high-level mutual benefits and win-win development.

During the event, the Shanghai Municipal Investment Promotion Office (Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization) presented the new opportunities in Shanghai’s key industrial chains under the theme “Meet the Future in Shanghai.” Additionally, the Pudong New Area Commission of Economy and Informatization, the Huangpu District Investment Promotion Office, and the Fengxian District Investment Promotion Office delivered regional-specific promotions, inviting Mexican enterprises to visit Shanghai for inspections, exchanges, and investments to share in the dividends of Shanghai’s high-quality development.

Colliers International, a global investment promotion partner of Shanghai, shared the “Profile of Successful Enterprises Investing in Shanghai,” highlighting the common characteristics of Mexican companies that have thrived across various sectors in the city. Representatives from the National Manufacturing Industry Association, the Mexican Council for Foreign Trade, Investment, and Technology Enterprises, and the Mexico-China Binational Business Council expressed their commitment to leveraging the influence of their respective chambers and associations to advance industrial cooperation between Shanghai and Mexico and uncover new investment opportunities.

Zhuang Mudi attentively listened to the suggestions and opinions put forward by the Mexican representatives regarding promoting two-way investment between Chinese and Mexican enterprises. He emphasized that Shanghai would carefully review, digest, and incorporate these insights into practical investment policies and targeted corporate services. The city is committed to enhancing cooperation alignment, continuously optimizing the business environment, and providing professional, efficient, and attentive services to strengthen the foundation and inject robust momentum for the development of foreign enterprises in Shanghai.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Economic Operations Office (Electric Power Division) and the Consumer Goods and Fashion Industry Development Office of the Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, as well as the Software and Information Services Division, the Municipal Investment Promotion Center, the Pudong New Area Science and Technology Economy Commission, the Huangpu District Investment Promotion Office, and the Fengxian District Investment Promotion Office.
